Overview

MicroRNA 1283 (miR-1283) is a small non-coding RNA molecule that serves as a critical post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression by binding to the 3' untranslated regions of target mRNAs. It is primarily recognized for its cardioprotective and tumor-suppressive roles across various pathological conditions. In cardiovascular health, miR-1283 has been shown to alleviate cardiomyocyte damage caused by hypoxia/reoxygenation injury by targeting GADD45A and subsequently inactivating the JNK and p38 MAPK signaling pathways (Kardiol Pol. 2021;79(2):147-155). In the context of hypertension, its downregulation is associated with increased endoplasmic reticulum stress and vascular injury through the PERK/ATF4 signaling axis (Med Sci Monit. 2021;27:e930552). Additionally, miR-1283 acts as a tumor suppressor in malignancies such as glioma and colorectal cancer by inhibiting cell proliferation and invasion through the targeting of oncogenic factors like ATF4 and PDZD8 (Oncol Res. 2019;27(3):325-334). Recent computational studies also suggest its potential as a broad-spectrum antiviral agent capable of targeting the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) of coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2 (Front. Microbiol. 2022).
