MicroRNA 1285-1 (miR-1285-1) is a small, non-coding RNA belonging to the microRNA family. It functions primarily as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences in the 3' untranslated regions of target mRNAs, leading to mRNA degradation or inhibition of translation. In human cells, the mature form of miR-1285 (from either MIR1285-1 or its paralog MIR1285-2) is identical, and the miRNA has been implicated as a tumor suppressor. Specifically, miR-1285 is significantly downregulated in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and restoration of its expression can inhibit cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. One well-characterized direct target is transglutaminase 2 (TGM2), which is upregulated in cancer and associated with drug resistance and metastasis. The broad regulatory roles of miR-1285 suggest its importance for normal cellular function and its dysregulation in oncogenic processes[2][3].
