Overview

microRNA 1285-2 (MIR1285-2) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule approximately 22 nucleotides in length, involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding target mRNA and promoting its degradation or inhibiting its translation[3]. In humans, MIR1285-2 is encoded on chromosome 2p13.3. Its mature sequence is identical to that from MIR1285-1. MIR1285-2 regulates several cellular processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle, primarily through targeting mRNAs such as TGM2 (transglutaminase 2) and DAPK2 (Death-Associated Protein Kinase 2)[1][2]. In cancer contexts—including renal cell carcinoma and colorectal cancer—miR-1285-2 acts as a tumor suppressor or oncogenic factor depending on the cellular environment, with downregulation associated with increased cancer cell proliferation and invasion, and inhibition leading to anti-tumor effects via modulation of pro-apoptotic pathways[1][2][3].
