Overview

microRNA 1290 is a small non-coding RNA transcribed from the MIR1290 gene (chromosome 1p36.13). Its canonical mature sequence (MIMAT0005880) consists of 19 nucleotides. miR-1290 post-transcriptionally regulates multiple genes, including oncogenes and tumor suppressors (e.g., SOCS4, GSK3, BCL2, SCAI, INPP4B). It influences key signaling pathways—JAK/STAT3, PI3K/AKT, Wnt/β-catenin, and NF-κB—that drive cell proliferation, apoptosis, and metastasis in various cancers. Dysregulated expression of miR-1290 is consistently found in tumor tissue and circulating blood/exosomes of cancer patients, highlighting its utility as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker. Therapeutic targeting of miR-1290 (by inhibition or modulation) is under preclinical investigation for its potential to suppress malignant cell behavior or sensitize tumors to chemotherapy.
