MicroRNA 1302-1 (MIR1302-1) is a non-coding RNA gene that produces the mature microRNA hsa-miR-1302. It belongs to a family of microRNAs derived from the MER53 DNA transposable element, and is part of a primate-specific expansion. Like other microRNAs, MIR1302-1 is processed from a primary transcript by Drosha and Dicer enzymes to become a 20–24 nucleotide mature miRNA, which is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to regulate gene expression by promoting translational repression or destabilization of target mRNAs. The predicted biological roles of miR-1302 family members include positive regulation of cellular processes, involvement in system development, and regulation of genes related to binding and transcription, but its specific biological functions and roles in disease are not well established[1][2]. There is currently no evidence indicating its utility as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or its involvement with drugs[1][2].
