MicroRNA 1302-2 (MIR1302-2) is a non-coding RNA of the microRNA (miRNA) class, derived from the MER53 DNA transposable element. Like other microRNAs, MIR1302-2 is processed from primary transcripts to produce a mature, ~22 nucleotide RNA that associates with the RISC complex to regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally. The mature miRNA typically binds imperfectly to target mRNAs, inhibiting translation or promoting mRNA degradation. The miR-1302 family, including MIR1302-2, is notable for its evolutionary derivation from MER53 elements and its presence in multiple genomic locations as a result of segmental duplications. While predicted to regulate genes involved in transportation, localization, and developmental processes, the exact biological functions and clinical significance of MIR1302-2 remain unknown[1][2]. There is currently no evidence supporting MIR1302-2 as a therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs, biomarkers, or clear disease associations for this microRNA family member.
