Overview

MicroRNA 1302-3 is a short (20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression primarily at the post-transcriptional level by influencing both mRNA stability and translation in multicellular organisms. It is processed from a precursor miRNA transcribed by RNA polymerase II, then cleaved by Drosha and Dicer enzymes before incorporation into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which mediates mRNA target repression. MIR1302-3 is evolutionarily recent and placental-specific, originating from the MER53 transposon and expanding via segmental duplication and possible Alu-mediated recombination events. Its predicted target genes suggest roles in system development, metabolism, and cell proliferation, but specific biological functions and relevance in human disease remain mostly uncharacterized and require further study. Current databases and literature indicate MIR1302-3 is a member of a miRNA family rather than a classical druggable target, and is not currently associated with established drug interactions or disease biomarker status.
