Overview

MicroRNA 1302-7 is a short (typically 20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNA, transcribed by RNA polymerase II and processed by Drosha and Dicer enzymes to form mature miRNA. Mature microRNAs participate in gene silencing by base-pairing with target messenger RNAs, leading to translational inhibition or mRNA degradation via the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[2]. The miR-1302 family is human-specific and derives from MER53 transposable elements that generate paralogous miRNAs across the genome[1]. While functional studies of individual family members—such as MIR1302-7—are limited, they are predicted to regulate genes involved in cellular organization, localization, and development, chiefly by affecting transcriptional regulation and various cellular processes[1]. No direct therapeutic interventions targeting MIR1302-7 are recorded, and its specific biological roles or disease associations are still under investigation. Thus, it is classified as a non-coding RNA regulator rather than a conventional therapeutic target[2][1].
