Overview

MicroRNA-1305 (miR-1305) is a small, non-coding RNA classified as a microRNA, which regulates gene expression by targeting specific messenger RNAs (mRNAs) for degradation or translational repression. In the context of liver cancer, miR-1305 directly targets the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2T (UBE2T), thereby inhibiting the Akt-signaling pathway and suppressing proliferation, self-renewal, and tumorigenicity of liver cancer stem cells. Downregulation of miR-1305 is associated with increased stemness and tumorigenic potential in hepatocellular carcinoma. Its modulation is under investigation as a potential therapeutic strategy and biomarker in oncology[1].

02

Mechanism of action

Post-transcriptional repression of specific mRNA targets (notably UBE2T, affecting Akt pathway activity)[1]

03

Biological functions

Regulation of cell proliferationRegulation of apoptosisRegulation of stemness and self-renewal in cancer stem cellsModulation of signal transduction (notably through the Akt-signaling pathway)
04

Disease associations

Cancer (notably hepatocellular carcinoma and liver cancer stem cells)Other (potential implications in additional cancers, unconfirmed in other disease states)
05

Safety considerations

No established clinical safety concerns; as a microRNA therapeutic target, anticipated challenges include targeted delivery, off-target effects, and unintended modulation of gene networks typical of RNA therapeutics
06

Biomarkers

Potential prognostic marker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and liver cancer stem cell activity[1]
