MicroRNA 1322 is a small non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) family, highly conserved among species, and encoded by the MIR1322 gene in humans. As a microRNA, miR-1322 regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to complementary sequences, typically in the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of target mRNAs, resulting in mRNA degradation or translational repression[3]. MiR-1322 has been reported to regulate the esophageal cancer-related gene 2 (ECRG2/SPINK7) in an allele-specific manner in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and is significantly upregulated in affected tissue and patient serum. This upregulation, and its ability to modulate ECRG2 expression, suggest roles for miR-1322 in cancer biology and its potential as a biomarker for diagnosis or prognosis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma[1]. Like other microRNAs, miR-1322 does not function as a conventional therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme but may be a focus for future research in RNA-based diagnostics or therapeutics.
