MicroRNA 1323 (MIR1323)

Target
MIR1323
Molecular classification
MicroRNA, Small non-coding RNA
01

Overview

MicroRNA 1323 is a processed, non-coding RNA molecule (20-24 nucleotides long) that functions mainly by binding to the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of specific mRNAs, leading to mRNA degradation or inhibition of translation. In humans, its expression is notably increased in gestational diabetes mellitus, where it serves as a biomarker for disease diagnosis and is implicated in the inhibition of trophoblast cell viability through the suppression of TP53INP1, a gene involved in metabolic regulation. MicroRNAs as a class are fundamental regulators of gene expression with diverse roles in development, cell differentiation, and disease. MicroRNAs, including MIR1323, do not code for proteins but are critical in fine-tuning gene expression. miR-1323 has been specifically linked to pregnancy complications, and interest exists for its use in diagnostic/prognostic biomarker applications. There is no evidence in these results for direct small molecule or approved drug interactions with MIR1323, though genetically targeted manipulation (using synthetic mimics or inhibitors) is described in cellular studies.
