Overview

microRNA-134 (miR-134) is a small, noncoding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to complementary sequences on target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to their degradation or translational repression. In neurons, miR-134 modulates dendritic spine development and synaptic strength. Outside the nervous system, miR‑134 acts predominantly as a tumor suppressor.
