MicroRNA 150 (miR-150) is a highly conserved, short non-coding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. It is primarily expressed in mature lymphocytes (T and B cells) and plays essential roles in cell differentiation, especially during lymphocyte development, as well as in apoptosis, proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis. MiR-150 directly binds to cellular mRNAs to induce translational repression or degradation, contributing to the regulation of hematopoietic, immune, and vascular functions. In disease, miR-150 can act as either a tumor suppressor or an oncogene, particularly in cancer, and its dysregulation is associated with several malignancies, cardiovascular pathologies, and inflammatory disorders. Due to these roles, miR-150 is considered both a biomarker and a potential therapeutic target, although its dual function in various tissues complicates clinical application.
Negative regulation of gene expression via binding to target mRNAs, resulting in translational repression or mRNA degradation. Mechanism of experimental drugs would include blockade, mimicry, or inhibition of miR-150 function.
