Overview

microRNA 1587 (miR-1587) is a non-coding, small RNA molecule classified as a microRNA, involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms[6]. It is known to form unique G-quadruplex structures, which mediate interactions with various proteins. miR-1587 is overexpressed in multiple cancer cell lines, where it interacts with proteins such as CASK and modulates downstream effectors like reelin and p21, leading to the regulation of cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and possibly tumor progression. Its biological impact is structure-dependent, influencing which protein partners it engages in the cell. miR-1587 is not a protein-coding gene and does not function as a conventional therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, so direct drug interactions have not been established[2][6].
