microRNA-16 (miR-16) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule that plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression by targeting specific messenger RNAs (mRNAs), thereby influencing biological processes such as cell cycle progression and apoptosis. It acts as a tumor suppressor in cancers like chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and is involved in fibrotic diseases by modulating the extracellular matrix synthesis.
