MicroRNA 197 (miR-197) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule encoded by the MIR197 gene, located on human chromosome 1p13.3, that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to complementary sequences on target mRNAs, leading to mRNA degradation or inhibition of translation[3][1][5]. It plays important roles in modulating cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and inflammatory responses, and is implicated in the pathogenesis and clinical progression of cancer, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and infectious diseases. Its expression serves as a biomarker for disease prognosis and therapeutic response, and drugs interacting with miR-197 include chemotherapy agents and TNF-α inhibitors. Challenges for therapeutic targeting include specificity, off-target effects, and delivery methods typical for microRNA-based therapies.
