Overview

microRNA 1976 (miR-1976) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule, 20 nucleotides in length, that regulates gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on target mRNAs and disrupting their translation or leading to their degradation[1][2]. It is located on chromosome 1p36.11 in humans[2]. miR-1976 has been implicated in neuronal apoptosis through targeting the PINK1 signaling pathway and may play a crucial role in the pathology of Parkinson’s disease[2]. In cancer, its downregulation has been associated with progression in breast and lung cancer, where it appears to act as a tumor suppressor; low levels may promote epithelial-mesenchymal transition and cancer metastasis[4][5]. miR-1976 is detectable in biofluids and may serve as a biomarker for certain diseases[2][5]. No approved drugs directly target miR-1976, but oligonucleotide-based approaches (anti-miRs or mimics) are under investigation as experimental therapeutic strategies[5].

Mechanism of action
