Overview

MicroRNA 203b (MIR203B) is a short non-coding RNA molecule in the microRNA family, primarily functioning as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression[3]. It acts as a tumor suppressor in several types of cancer, including hepatocellular carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, by inhibiting mRNAs such as MAT2A, MAT2B, RUNX2, LIN28B, and c-JUN, leading to reduced proliferation, increased apoptosis, and promotion of differentiation in affected cells[1][2]. Its expression is often downregulated in cancers where it normally exerts these suppressive effects[1][2]. MIR203B may serve as a candidate biomarker for prognosis and patient selection in cancer therapy[1].
