MicroRNA-2053 is a small, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA family. It functions as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression, primarily acting as a tumor suppressor in various cancers. Overexpression of miR-2053 has been shown to inhibit tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, while inducing apoptosis, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma and esophageal cancer cell models. These anti-tumor effects are mediated through the downregulation of the PI3K/AKT and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways, as well as the targeted repression of genes such as KIF3C. Reduced levels of miR-2053 are associated with cancer progression, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target or biomarker in oncology[1][2].
