MicroRNA-21 (miR-21) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. It functions as an oncomiR, promoting cancer development by targeting tumor suppressor genes. It is also involved in cardiovascular diseases, fibrosis, inflammation, and central nervous system disorders, modulating immune responses and inflammatory processes. miR-21 biogenesis involves transcription, Drosha and Dicer processing, and RISC complex incorporation to silence or degrade target mRNAs.
