microRNA-2110 (miR-2110) is a member of the microRNA family, a class of small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to complementary sequences on target messenger RNAs, leading to mRNA degradation or translational repression[3][5][7]. miR-2110 has been identified as an onco-suppressive miRNA in several human cancers, notably in neuroblastoma, where it induces cell differentiation and reduces cell survival and proliferation[1][2]. Its key molecular target appears to be the Tsukushi (TSKU) gene, which plays a role in cell survival and differentiation; miR-2110 suppresses TSKU expression, and low levels of miR-2110 are associated with poor prognosis in neuroblastoma patients[1][2]. miR-2110 has also been reported as down-regulated in other cancers such as rectal and colorectal cancer, further supporting its general tumor-suppressive role[1]. As a microRNA, miR-2110 is not a typical therapeutic target like a receptor or enzyme, and there are currently no known drugs that directly target it or are modulated by it. However, its expression level may serve as a biomarker for patient prognosis, particularly in neuroblastoma[1]. MicroRNAs, including miR-2110, play widespread roles in cell fate determination, proliferation, apoptosis, and tumorigenesis, but do not fall into categories such as receptor, ion channel, or enzyme[3][5].
