Overview

MicroRNA 212-5p (miR-212-5p) is a small, single-stranded, non-coding RNA of approximately 21–23 nucleotides that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to target mRNAs, leading to mRNA degradation or inhibition of translation[2][4][5]. It is implicated in cellular processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and the cell cycle, and its dysregulation is associated with the development and progression of cancers (including ovarian, renal, and pancreatic) as well as other diseases[3][4][5]. In cancer, miR-212-5p may act as either an oncogene or tumor suppressor depending on cellular context; it has been shown to target genes involved in apoptosis (e.g., XIAP), cell cycle progression (e.g., CCND3/cyclin D3), and other regulatory pathways[3]. MIR212 is being investigated as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for patient stratification and disease monitoring[3][4][5].
