Target intelligence / Profile preview
hsa-miR-301b-3p is a mature microRNA that functions as a critical post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression by binding to the 3-untranslated regions (UTRs) of target messenger RNAs (miRBase, 2024). It is primarily characterized as an oncogenic microRNA (oncomiRNA) due to its frequent upregulation in various cancers, including breast cancer, acute myeloid leukemia, and lung adenocarcinoma (NIH, 2022; NCBI, 2025). By targeting and silencing tumor suppressor genes such as FOXF2, NR3C2, and TGFBR2, it promotes cell proliferation, inhibits apoptosis, and facilitates epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and metastasis (NIH, 2024). Beyond oncology, it has been implicated in pulmonary arterial hypertension and diabetic wound healing (MedNexus, 2023; NIH, 2025). Therapeutic approaches targeting hsa-miR-301b-3p involve the use of antagomirs or antisense oligonucleotides to neutralize its oncogenic effects (MDPI, 2024). Its stable presence in biofluids makes it a valuable candidate for non-invasive diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers (NIH, 2024). However, therapeutic development faces challenges such as ensuring tissue-specific delivery and minimizing off-target effects on other gene networks (MDPI, 2024). Overall, hsa-miR-301b-3p represents a promising target for precision medicine in oncology and other complex diseases.
Binds to the 3-untranslated region (UTR) of target mRNAs to induce mRNA degradation or translational repression, thereby silencing gene expression (NCBI, 2025).
