MicroRNA 3117 is a short, non-coding RNA molecule (20–24 nucleotides) classified as a microRNA. It is transcribed as a primary transcript (pri-miRNA), which is processed by Drosha and Dicer enzymes to yield the mature miRNA. This mature form is loaded onto an RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which uses base-pair complementarity to recognize and regulate stability and translation of target mRNAs, resulting in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA[1][4]. MIR3117 is implicated in regulating cell proliferation and may target specific mRNAs involved in cancer, such as hepatocellular carcinoma[1]. There is also evidence from transcriptomic profiling indicating roles for microRNAs (including MIR3117 and related molecules) as biomarkers or regulators in breast cancer molecular subtypes[3].
