MicroRNA 3118-3 is a short, non-coding RNA gene in humans from the class of microRNAs (miRNAs), which are approximately 20–24 nucleotides in length and regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by promoting mRNA degradation or inhibiting translation. MIR3118-3 is transcribed as part of a longer primary transcript, processed by RNase III enzymes (Drosha and Dicer) to yield the mature miRNA[1][3][4][5]. While the general function of miRNAs involves regulation of development, differentiation, cell cycle, and apoptosis, there are currently no experimentally validated or disease-specific roles described for MIR3118-3 itself in public databases or the literature. As such, it is best classified as a non-coding RNA with post-transcriptional regulatory potential, but not as a receptor, enzyme, or typical drug target[1][4].
