Overview

MicroRNA 3127 (miR-3127) is a small non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA (miRNA). It functions primarily by regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, commonly through binding to complementary sequences in target mRNAs, resulting in gene silencing or suppression. miR-3127 has been shown to promote cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, and tumorigenicity, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma, through activation of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway by downregulating multiple phosphatases that normally inhibit this pathway. It may also play roles in other cancers, such as breast cancer, where it participates in inflammation-related regulatory networks and potentially regulates key tumor-related genes. High levels of miR-3127 are associated with aggressive tumor phenotypes and poor prognosis in several cancers. As a typical miRNA, it is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme, but may serve as a potential biomarker or therapeutic target in oncology depending on ongoing research outcomes.
