Overview

MicroRNA 3130-1 (MIR3130-1) is a short (20–24 nucleotide) non-coding RNA belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) class, which plays a central role in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms[1]. It is transcribed as part of longer primary transcripts and processed into mature miRNA that associates with RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), guiding it to target mRNAs for translational inhibition or destabilization[1]. In cancer biology, miR-3130-5p, one of the mature products of MIR3130-1, has been shown to promote invasion, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung adenocarcinoma cells by targeting specific genes such as NDUFS1[2]. Inhibition or overexpression of miR-3130-5p alters invasive properties and molecular markers of EMT both in vitro and in mouse xenograft tumor models[2]. In endometrial cancer, MIR3130-3p participates in LINC01016-dependent regulation of NFYA and SATB1, acting as part of a regulatory axis affecting oncogenic phenotypes[5]. There are currently no clinically established drugs targeting MIR3130-1, and its clinical utility is investigational, with evidence primarily focused on its function and dysregulation in cancer[1][2][5].
