MicroRNA 3136 (miR-3136) is a small non-coding RNA of 20–24 nucleotides that is predicted to regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to mRNA targets, typically leading to their inhibition or destabilization[1][2]. Like other microRNAs, it is initially produced as part of a primary transcript and undergoes maturation involving Drosha and Dicer ribonucleases, ultimately becoming incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[1][2]. Expression studies have identified miR-3136-5p as part of a molecular signature that distinguishes high-grade precursor lesions (CIN 3) from normal cervical tissue, suggesting a role in cancer biology and potential utility as a minimal-invasive biomarker for cervical disease[3]. There is currently no evidence that miR-3136 is directly targeted by therapeutic drugs, nor is it established as a classical receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc., but it may indirectly regulate disease-relevant pathways.
