MicroRNA 3143 (MIR3143) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) family, typically 20–24 nucleotides in length. It is transcribed from DNA but does not encode a protein. Instead, microRNAs like MIR3143 function in the regulation of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, most often by binding to target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and causing translational inhibition or mRNA instability. MicroRNAs undergo a multistep biogenesis process involving Drosha and Dicer cleavage to generate the mature, functional miRNA. MIR3143 has been associated with diseases such as schizoid personality disorder, but specific functional data, disease roles beyond this, or direct drug interactions have not been reported in the available literature.
