microRNA 3145 is a human-origin microRNA encoded within the intronic region of the NHSL1 gene. It acts as an antiviral regulator with the ability to suppress replication of viruses such as hepatitis B virus (HBV) by binding the highly conserved pol region of the HBV genome; expression is upregulated in response to HBV infection and is associated with favorable prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma. It also inhibits replication of multiple influenza A virus subtypes by silencing the viral PB1 polymerase gene. Its biological role makes it a potential candidate for novel antiviral therapies, though optimized delivery and safety remain under investigation
