Overview

MicroRNA 3155a (MIR3155A) is a short, non-coding RNA involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in human cells, functioning via the RNA-induced silencing complex to modulate the translation or stability of target mRNAs. MIR3155A is a member of the microRNA family, consisting of endogenous, single-stranded, non-coding RNAs about 20–24 nucleotides in length. MIR3155A is transcribed as part of a primary transcript that is processed to a mature miRNA, which associates with the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and guides the complex to complementary sequences in target mRNAs. The resulting effect is typically suppression of gene expression by translational inhibition or mRNA destabilization. The physiological and pathological roles of MIR3155A remain largely uncharacterized, but broadly, microRNAs are known to be involved in developmental regulation, homeostasis, and disease processes through their influence on gene expression networks. No reportable direct interactions with therapeutic drugs, nor established associations with specific disease mechanisms or safety concerns, have been documented for MIR3155A.
