MicroRNA 3156-1 (MIR3156-1) is a human microRNA gene encoding a small non-coding RNA molecule processed into mature forms such as miR-3156-5p, which regulate the expression of target mRNAs by promoting their degradation or inhibiting their translation. MIR3156-1 does not encode a protein and is considered part of the broad class of post-transcriptional regulatory molecules involved in fine-tuning gene expression. Recent studies indicate that miR-3156-5p, processed from the MIR3156-1 locus, is involved in the pathophysiology of various cancers (breast, lung, colorectal, thyroid, and neuroendocrine) and may regulate tumor proteins such as MORF4L2. Its differential serum levels in cancer patients suggest utility as a prognostic and therapeutic response biomarker; however, its exact gene targets and molecular actions remain incompletely characterized[4][5].
Not applicable for direct drug targeting, but miR-3156-1 (specifically miR-3156-5p, its mature processed product) regulates the expression of various genes (such as MORF4L2, CASP2, and TPT1-AS1), thus indirectly impacting cancer therapy response[4].
