Overview

MicroRNA 3158-1 (MIR3158-1) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule of 20-24 nucleotides that belongs to the microRNA class. It participates in post-transcriptional gene regulation by affecting the stability and translation of target mRNAs, primarily through the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). MIR3158-1 is processed from a longer primary transcript via enzymatic cleavage by Drosha and Dicer. MicroRNAs like MIR3158-1 are implicated in various diseases by modulating key genetic networks, including roles in oncology as disease classifiers and regulatory molecules; for MIR3158-1 specifically, diseases associated include chromosome 15q13.3 deletion syndrome and malaria. There is currently no evidence that MIR3158-1 is directly targeted by approved drugs or widely used as a direct therapeutic target or biomarker. MIR3158-1 is a microRNA, which is a regulatory non-coding RNA rather than a protein-coding therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or channel. There is no standard or direct use of MIR3158-1 as a drug target, nor evidence of interacting drugs, nor defined safety concerns from current literature. Biological functions and disease roles are extrapolated based on canonical microRNA biology and specific database associations.
