Overview

MicroRNA 3158-2 is a human gene encoding a microRNA molecule, part of a class of small (approximately 20–24 nucleotides), single-stranded, non-coding RNAs involved in post-transcriptional gene regulation. These molecules are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as primary transcripts, processed by RNase III enzymes Drosha and Dicer, and incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), where they target complementary mRNAs to inhibit translation or promote degradation[1][2][3][6][7]. MicroRNAs as a class are implicated in cellular differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and other physiological and disease-related processes, but there is no disease association, biomarker use, or therapeutic targeting information specific to MIR3158-2 in current literature[1].
