Overview

MicroRNA 3162 (miR-3162) is a small, non-coding RNA belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) family, which plays a regulatory role in gene expression by binding to target messenger RNAs, leading to translational inhibition or mRNA degradation. miR-3162 is specifically implicated as a modulator of airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness by directly targeting the 3′-UTR of β-catenin mRNA, leading to its downregulation; miR-3162-3p antagomir administration can alleviate asthma symptoms in experimental models. Like other miRNAs, it likely has broader, yet not fully mapped, roles in multiple biological pathways and diseases, although no approved drugs directly target miR-3162 at this time. Mechanism of action
