MicroRNA 3174 (miR-3174) is a short (20–24 nucleotide) non-coding RNA that mediates post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression via the RNA-induced silencing complex. It functions as a tumor suppressor in several cancer types, particularly glioblastoma, where it inhibits cell proliferation, induces apoptosis, and reduces invasion by repressing the expression of multiple tumor-promoting genes. miR-3174 is typically downregulated in cancerous tissues compared to normal tissues, and its restoration may have therapeutic potential. As a microRNA, it belongs to a class of regulatory RNAs, not to traditional therapeutic target families like receptors or enzymes, but is directly implicated in the control of key cancer-related pathways.
Binds to target mRNAs, leading to translational inhibition or degradation of the target mRNA. Downregulates tumor-promoting genes such as CD44, MDM2, RHOA, PLAU, and CDK6 in glioblastoma.
