Overview

MicroRNA 3176 (MIR3176) is a human microRNA, part of a class of small (20–24 nucleotide) non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally. It functions by binding to target mRNAs, leading to translational inhibition or degradation of the mRNA. MIR3176 is encoded by the MIR3176 gene (HGNC: 38345) and is an RNA molecule, not a protein. It is predicted to regulate numerous genes, with reported targets including ZNF274, CYCS, TTC37, ANAPC7, LSM3, RAB11FIP4, and ACTB, thus implicating it in the regulation of diverse cellular pathways. MIR3176 has been identified as regulated and upregulated in certain breast cancer contexts, specifically in response to therapy targeting PGRMC1, suggesting possible roles in cancer biology. Like other microRNAs, MIR3176 is transcribed as a primary miRNA, processed into precursor and mature forms, and functions via the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). There is currently no evidence that MIR3176 is a classical therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme, and no drugs are known to selectively target it; its manipulation would fall under experimental RNA therapeutics. No known safety concerns or established clinical biomarker uses have been reported for MIR3176.
