MicroRNA 3180-1 (MIR3180-1) is a member of the microRNA family of small (20–24 nucleotide) non-coding RNAs that mediate post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, primarily by binding to complementary sequences on target mRNAs, resulting in their degradation or translational repression. The stem-loop precursor of MIR3180-1 is processed by Drosha and Dicer enzymes, and the mature microRNA is incorporated into RISC to exert its effects. MIR3180-1 is cataloged in multiple genomic resources and is associated with the regulation of actinomycosis-related genes, with possible (but not directly evidenced) roles in neurodegenerative processes such as Alzheimer's disease through mechanisms common to the microRNA class. As with all microRNAs, MIR3180-1 is not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter and does not serve as a direct therapeutic target, though alterations in its expression and function may influence disease biology[3][4][6].
