MicroRNA 3180-2 is a member of the human microRNA (miRNA) class, consisting of small (20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNA molecules that mediate post-transcriptional regulation by promoting mRNA degradation or inhibiting translation through base-pairing with target mRNAs[3][4]. Like other miRNAs, MIR3180-2 is processed from a primary transcript (pri-miRNA) via Drosha and Dicer enzymes into its mature form, which is then incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[4]. It is predicted to regulate gene expression, but there are no published functional or disease associations specific to this miRNA. Although some closely related miRNAs (such as miR-3179 and miR-3180) are located in an intergenic cluster on chromosome 16 and have been studied for potential regulatory functions, there is no evidence that miR-3180-2 functions as an enhancer RNA or regulator in disease mechanisms[1].
