MicroRNA 3180-4 (MIR3180-4) is a human microRNA gene (non-coding RNA) involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression[1]. Like other miRNAs, it is transcribed as a primary transcript, processed in the nucleus and cytoplasm by enzymes Drosha and Dicer, ultimately yielding a mature miRNA molecule that is incorporated into the RISC complex[3][5]. This enables MIR3180-4 to regulate mRNA targets—typically via seed region base pairing and resultant silencing or repression of target gene expression. While general functional studies exist for related miRNAs, there is currently limited data regarding MIR3180-4's specific biological roles, target mRNAs, or regulatory effects. The only published disease association is with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, but this link appears limited and has not been robustly validated[1]. No approved drugs or therapeutic interventions, nor clear biomarker roles, are published for MIR3180-4. Therefore, it remains primarily characterized as a human miRNA locus with putative but unconfirmed roles in gene regulatory networks.
