MicroRNA 3188 (MIR3188)

Target
MIR3188
Molecular classification
MicroRNA, Non-coding RNA molecule, Other (Gene regulator)
01

Overview

MicroRNA 3188 (MIR3188) is a small (typically ~22 nucleotides), endogenous non-coding RNA molecule in humans that plays a regulatory role in cell biology by binding to messenger RNAs and inhibiting their translation or promoting their degradation. In hepatocellular carcinoma, MIR3188 has been shown to regulate cell proliferation and apoptosis by targeting the chemokine gene CXCL14, implicating it in tumor progression. Like other microRNAs, MIR3188 is generated from a longer primary transcript via the canonical microRNA biogenesis pathway, involving DROSHA and DICER enzymes for processing. Its broader function includes modulation of gene expression networks critical for development, disease, and cellular homeostasis[1][2][3][6].

Mechanism of action

RNA silencing: Binds to target mRNA (such as CXCL14 in hepatocellular carcinoma), leading to repression or degradation of that transcript. Translational inhibition: Prevents translation of specific protein-coding genes by binding to their mRNAs.
