MicroRNA 3191 (MIR3191) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) class. Like other miRNAs, MIR3191 regulates gene expression by binding to target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), which leads to either inhibition of translation or degradation of the target mRNA. MIR3191 is transcribed as part of a longer precursor RNA that is processed by the RNase III enzymes Drosha and Dicer to form the mature miRNA, which is subsequently loaded into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). MIR3191 has been implicated in promoting migration and invasion of cancer cells by downregulating TGFBR2, and associations have been reported with diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia. While microRNAs are increasingly studied as therapeutic targets and biomarkers, MIR3191 itself is not currently recognized as a direct therapeutic target by drugs or therapies[1][2][3].
