Overview

MicroRNA 3196 (miR-3196) is a non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA (miRNA), which typically measures 20–24 nucleotides in length and regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level[1][6]. Incorporation into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) allows miR-3196 to bind to target mRNAs, resulting in translational inhibition or mRNA degradation[1][6]. miR-3196 has been shown to act as a tumor suppressor in several cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma, by targeting genes such as FOXP4[2]. Its expression is transcriptionally upregulated by the tumor suppressor protein p53 and can increase sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents like doxorubicin and cisplatin in hepatocellular carcinoma cells[2]. Furthermore, miR-3196 modulates apoptosis and cell proliferation by downregulating cancer-associated genes in other tumors, including those related to breast and lung cancer[2]. As a microRNA, miR-3196 is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or typical drug target and has no known direct drug interactions or associated safety concerns. Its altered expression in certain diseases suggests potential utility as a biomarker for cancer diagnosis or prognosis[2].
