MicroRNA 329-2 (MIR329-2) is an intergenic microRNA gene located on chromosome 14q32.31 that encodes for a non-coding RNA involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression[1][2]. MIR329-2 is one of the two loci for microRNA-329 (with identical precursor sequences), acting as a tumor suppressor through inhibition of key pathways controlling cell cycle progression and cell proliferation. It has been shown to regulate the oncogene E2F1 in glioma cells, thereby suppressing the Akt signaling pathway and reducing tumor growth potential[1]. In breast cancer, MIR329-2 downregulates expression of p130Cas, interfering with cellular proliferation and migration[2]. Its expression is frequently decreased in malignancies due to epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA methylation or by MeCP2-mediated silencing[2]. Serum and tissue downregulation of miR-329 serves as a biomarker for poor prognosis and may define a novel therapeutic approach in cancers such as glioma and breast carcinoma[3].
