MicroRNA 335 is a post-transcriptional gene regulator, processed from the second intron of the mesoderm-specific transcript (MEST) gene[4]. It modulates cancer biology by acting as a metastasis suppressor and controlling cell cycle, apoptosis, proliferation, migration, and invasion in several tumor types[2][3][4]. miR-335 operates through diverse mechanisms, including direct repression of target genes such as ROCK1, BCL-W, CPNE1, MAPK1, SHH, and OCT4, thereby inhibiting pathways like Ras, PI3K/AKT/mTOR, Hedgehog, and Hippo/YAP[1][2][3]. Its downregulation in malignant tissues is frequently associated with promoter hypermethylation or chromosomal loss, and restoration of miR-335 function is being investigated as a novel anticancer approach[2][3][4].
