MicroRNA 346 (miR-346) is a small non-coding RNA that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally, primarily by binding to target mRNAs and affecting their translation or stability[1][2][3][4]. Uniquely, miR-346 has been shown to upregulate the translation of certain genes such as hTERT and receptor-interacting protein 140 by facilitating mRNA association with polysomes in an Ago2-independent manner[1][3]. miR-346 also directly targets genes like AGO2, and its up- or downregulation impacts key cellular processes, including proliferation, apoptosis, and oxidative stress, especially in the context of cancer and retinal diseases[1][2]. Aberrant miR-346 expression has been implicated in tumorigenesis (notably cervical cancer and gliomas), retinal degeneration, and potentially other diseases where gene regulatory balance is disrupted[1][2][4].
