As a member of the miR-34 family, miR-34b has a well-established tumor suppressor role: it is typically downregulated in cancers and mediates suppression of oncogenes such as MYC and MET, inducing cell cycle arrest, promoting apoptosis, and inhibiting proliferation, invasion, and migration[3][2][7]. Its function is tightly linked to the p53 tumor suppressor pathway[1]. Beyond cancer, miR-34b participates in regulation of development, immune responses, spermatogenesis, and cilia function[1][6].
