MicroRNA 3612 is a human microRNA (non-coding, small RNA molecule) that functions in post-transcriptional gene regulation. Like other microRNAs, it generally acts by binding to complementary sequences in target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to mRNA silencing via degradation or inhibition of translation. MicroRNAs are processed from primary transcripts into mature 21–23 nucleotide molecules that are incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which mediates their gene-silencing effects. The specific biological functions and disease associations of miR-3612 have not been extensively described in the literature; its general function is inferred from canonical microRNA activity in gene expression control.
Not applicable to classic drugs. Antisense oligonucleotides or miRNA mimics/inhibitors could theoretically modulate miR-3612, as with other microRNAs, to alter gene regulation in research or therapeutic settings.
