MicroRNA 3613 is a small non-coding RNA molecule encoded by the MIR3613 gene, located near the RB1 and BRCA2 tumor suppressor loci on chromosome 13. As a microRNA, miR-3613-3p functions in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to the 3' untranslated regions of target mRNAs, leading to their translational repression or degradation. It is downregulated or deleted in several cancers (notably breast cancer) and acts as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting cell proliferation, suppressing tumor growth and metastasis, and promoting apoptosis of cancer cells. Key direct targets include oncogenes and cell cycle regulators such as SMAD2 and EZH2. Restoration of miR-3613-3p sensitizes tumor cells to certain anti-cancer drugs (e.g., Palbociclib) and its altered levels are being explored both as diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers and as a therapeutic strategy in oncology.
