MicroRNA 3615 (miR-3615) is a short, non-coding RNA belonging to the microRNA family, encoded in the human genome (GeneCards ID: MIR3615, HGNC: 38905, NCBI Gene: 100500847, Ensembl: ENSG00000284186, miRBase: hsa-mir-3615). It exerts its function by regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally, primarily through mRNA targeting and subsequent translation inhibition or mRNA degradation mediated via the RISC complex. Expression of miR-3615 is significantly upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma, where high levels are associated with worse prognosis, higher TNM stage, higher AFP, and higher Ki-67 expression. It has been proposed as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for hepatocellular carcinoma. Disease associations also include retinitis pigmentosa and certain syndromic disorders. miR-3615, like many microRNAs, is processed from a longer primary transcript and plays diverse regulatory roles in various tissues.
